Professional Experience:
Soprano Deanna Horjus-Lang received her MM in Voice at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois where she studied with Norman Gulbrandsen. Her undergraduate work was done at Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where she obtained a BM in vocal performance and education. In 1992 she went to The Netherlands and received a Certificate in Baroque Music Performance and Practices at The Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where she studied under Marius van Altena and Diane Forlano. There she remained and performed until her return to the United States in 2003.

Her solo experience includes the St. John, St. Matthew Passions and B Minor Mass of Bach, various oratorio works of Handel including The Messiah, Mozart works including Exultate Jubilate and Davidae Penitentae, Haydn works including the Lord Nelson Mass and Die Jahreszeiten, and works of Gounod, Charpentier, Biber, Szymanowski, Faure, Rutter, etc. Having a strong musical background (piano, flute and bassoon) she was frequently asked to do modern music including works of Stockhausen, Stravinski and Berio.

She was guest soloist in Festivals in Portugal, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany and England. In 2004 Deanna soloed in the world premiere of the new orchestration of Darin Hagen's Joyful Music in the opening concerts at Overture Hall in Madison. Among the other organizations with which she has soloed are: The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Opera Theater, Music of the Baroque, The Green Bay Symphony, The Concertgebouw Orchestra, The Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, The Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, the Metropole Orchestra, and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra.

Deanna has soloed with conductors such as Leonard Slatkin, Riccardo Chailly, Sigiswald Kuijken, Thomas Wikman, Margaret Hillis, Georges-Elie Octors, Klaus Peter Flor, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Kenneth Montgomery, Jos van Veldhoven, Bridget-Michaele Reischl.

Her most noteworthy opera roles include Poppea in "L’incoronazione di Poppea" by Monteverdi, Gretel in "Hansel and Gretel" by Humperdinck, Belinda in "Dido and Aenea"s by Purcell, Gianetta in "L’elisir d’amore", Cenerentola in "La Cenerentola" by Rossini, Lucy in "The Telephone" and the Mother in "Amahl and the Night Visitors" by Menotti.
