Wisconsin in Scotland Program

What is the Wisconsin In Scotland Program?

  • Residential study abroad program established in 1986
  • Living learning community in a unique international setting
  • Low cost
  • Directed study of Scottish culture
  • Access to resources of a major European city
  • Life changing experience

Program Location

  • Dalkeith Scotland, near Edinburgh

Dalkeith House and Estate

  • 300 year old home of Buccleuch family
  • Dormitory style sleeping rooms (2-6 students per room)
  • Numerous indoor/outdoor recreation areas
  • Classrooms, study areas computer lab
  • Set on 1000 acres of country park on the eastern edge of Dalkeith

Academic Program

  • Designed to allow you to earn credits toward your degree
  • Core curriculum (REQUIRED)
  • Minimum of one course taught by British Instructor
  • "Scotland: Society & Globalization" Course
  • Courses taught by UW Faculty
  • Range of subjects—mostly humanities
  • General Education to major courses
  • Courses aligned to learning about Scottish host culture

Opportunities to Learn About the Scottish Culture

  • Programming: house trips to historic/cultural points of interest, optional cultural trips and activities
  • Host family program
  • Internship Program
  • "Scotland: Society & Globalization" Course
  • Directed Independent study
  • British Instructors

Costs

  • $7,495 per student (room, board, and tuition)
  • $3,000-$4,000 per student budgeted airfare, travel expenses, weekend meals, etc.
