Fine Arts: Theatre
The theatre department presents one production each
semester. A variety of works, including dramas, comedies,
farces, and musicals, have been produced. Students can audition
for acting roles or volunteer for technical areas of production
(costumes, set construction, sound, lighting, makeup, stage
management, etc).
If you're interested in theatre as a major, as an extracurricular
experience or just for the fun of it, you are invited to get
involved!
SPRING 2007: Actors sought for ‘Proof’
Auditions for the University of Wisconsin-Baraboo/Sauk County's
spring-semester theatre production of "Proof," will
be held from 6 to 10 p.m., Feb. 1 and 2 in the R.G. Brown
Theatre.
Both students and community members are encouraged to audition.
Roles are needed for two men and two women. One male role
calls for an actor who looks age 50. The other roles call
for actors who look around age 20. UW-Baraboo/Sauk County’s
Cat Gleason will direct the production.
David Auburn’s “Proof” is a compelling
drama about trust and family set against the backdrop of the
competitive and insular world of mathematics. Catherine, the
daughter of a mathematical genius must face the possibility
that she may have inherited her father’s insanity, and
perhaps more frighteningly, his brilliance. This Pulitzer
Prize winning play questions our understanding of truth and
certainty by asking—How do you prove sanity? And moreover,
how do you prove genius?
The campus is holding a copy of the play on reserve in the
T.N. Savides Library for viewing. Performances will be held
April 12 to 15. For more information, contact Gleason at cat.gleason@uwc.edu
or 608-355-5238.
"Lady Luxury"
"Lady Luxury" was presented on several occasions
during the fall of 2005 as part of benefit festivities celebrating
the 90-year anniversary of the Al. Ringling Theatre’s
opening.
